To become a radiologist, you must first obtain pre-medical education at a college or university and graduate with a bachelor’s degree. Afterward, you need to graduate from an accredited medical school and pass the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). Following medical school, you will complete a residency program lasting at least four years. Many radiologists also pursue a fellowship, which is an additional one to two years of specialized training in a particular subspecialty, such as radiation oncology, pediatric radiology, interventional radiology, breast imaging, cardiovascular radiology, or nuclear medicine.
